your places, your weather

Swipe at the top. Change the sky.

Your saved places live at the top of the Now screen. A quick swipe left or right jumps between Raleigh, Asheville, or wherever you're curious about. No menus, no loading spinners; the cached forecast paints instantly.

Head to the Places tab to search, add, and rearrange. Your home location is always first. Pin a vacation spot, check if it's raining at your kid's college, or just see what the weather's like across the world.

And the list is a forecast in itself: every saved place shows its current condition and temperature right in the row, from cache, so checking on three cities takes zero taps.

the main chart

Temperature and rain, hour by hour.

The chart shows the temperature curve and precipitation chance for every hour. Scroll through and the header follows the focused hour. Is it going to rain at 3 PM? Now you know.

Everything is cached, so scrolling through the hours is instant. No spinner, no waiting, just the answer.

And below the hours, the week ahead: seven days of highs, lows, and rain chances, blended from the same model consensus as today's numbers.

why we blend

Wisdom of the Crowd.

Most weather apps show you one model's opinion. Sunno shows you the consensus of several. The temperature, precipitation, and conditions you see are blended from multiple independent global weather models using a weighted average: ECMWF, GFS, ICON, GEM, JMA and others, each with their own strengths and blind spots.

This is called wisdom of the crowd: a consortium of answers is generally more accurate than any single one. When five models agree on 72°, that number carries more weight than one model saying 72° and four others disagreeing. And when they don't agree, you see the spread: a band around the number that honestly represents the uncertainty, instead of a false precision that pretends there isn't any.

The headline forecast is always the blended consensus. The individual model lines remain visible as context, so you can see where the agreement comes from. No single source gets to be right by default.

for sky-watchers

The sun and moon, expanded.

Tap the astronomy card and it opens up: sunrise, sunset, golden hour, blue hour, moonrise, moon phase, and a dark-sky score that ranks tonight for stargazing, factoring in moonset, cloud cover, and darkness.

Golden hour is computed from actual solar geometry, not a fixed offset, because the hour after sunrise means something different in Minneapolis than it does in Singapore.

make it yours

Turn on what you want. Off by default.

Marine conditions are built in; toggle them on in Settings and they appear as cards in the forecast. Live by the water or visiting the beach? Check tide times and sea state.

Notifications go beyond severe alerts. Set a daily morning briefing, a frost warning for your garden, a rain-starting alert from the nowcast, or a UV reminder. You pick the rules. Everything respects quiet hours.

your screen, your call

Four faces. Four hourly styles.

Everyone reads the sky differently. Sunno gives you four hero card faces and four hourly chart styles — and you can mix and match them however you like. That's 16 possible combinations, zero wrong answers.

Choose your setup during onboarding, change it anytime in Settings. The home-screen widget wears the top card face you pick.

layer 1

The Top Card Faces

Range bar the default

The temperature floats on a vertical bar between today's low and high.

Centered

A big centered number over a horizontal low-to-high track.

Dial

The temperature rides an arc from low to high, number in the middle.

Classic

The original look: big number top-left, stats in floating pills.

layer 2

The Hourly Chart Styles

Dual curve the default

Temperature wave with an overlaid precipitation line in the same band.

Curve & bars

Continuous temperature wave with precipitation rendered as discrete vertical bars.

Wave & badges

Clean temperature wave with rain probability shown as compact badges beneath icons.

Separated tracks

Divided plot with dedicated upper temperature and lower precipitation tracks.

Mix & Match

16 combinations. All up to you.

Prefer the Centered hero with Curve & bars? Or the Dial with Wave & badges? Hero card and hourly chart are completely independent choices. Switch either one in Settings anytime with instant live preview.

the air around you

Know what you're breathing.

Every forecast carries an air-quality panel: the EPA index and band, plus the pollutants behind it (PM2.5, ozone, nitrogen dioxide), each with a colored dot. "Is this number bad?" is a glance, not a search.

Pollen gets the same treatment: tree, grass, weed and ragweed levels for today, plus a seven-day outlook that names the species driving a high day. Where the forecast provider has no pollen data, a second source fills it in, so most of the planet is covered.

Hurricane tracker

hurricane season

Know where the storm is headed.

Every active hurricane, typhoon, and tropical storm, drawn right on the radar map: the forecast cone, the track with its intensity at each point, the path it has already taken, and the coastal watches and warnings. Tap a storm for its category, winds, and movement.

If a storm could reach one of your places, the Now screen tells you plainly: how close it may pass, and when. Cities further down the path find out from the first advisory, not the day it arrives. Live nearby but outside the cone? A Tropical storms tile keeps the storm one tap away.

Turn on the storm alert and Sunno notifies you once when a storm's track comes near home, and again if the cone takes it in. It won't warn Miami about a storm headed for Texas.

Tracks come from NOAA's National Hurricane Center, with worldwide coverage for the other ocean basins. Deciding which storms concern you happens on your phone, so the storm feed never learns where you are.

a personal note

I went looking for a weather app.
Never found one.

30 apps tried. None of them right.

clunky design ugly
ad-supported ads
tracks location spies
loads forever slow
no radar missing
no hourly chart missing
$40/year pricey
sells your data broker

I made a spreadsheet of thirty options and tried every one. Each was a compromise on design, privacy, features, speed, or price. I figured I couldn't be the only one feeling this way.

So I set out to make the weather app I always wanted. One that uses a premium data source for accuracy. One that gives me the quick-glance answer I need 90% of the time I open it, and the deeper detail for the 10% when I want the tide, the pollen report, or the stargazing forecast.

All of it without tracking my location, serving ads, or selling data to a third-party broker.

That's Sunno.

Everything I feel a weather app should be.

privacy isn't a setting

It's how it's built.

Other weather apps send your precise coordinates to a third-party server and loads map tiles from a CDN that logs your location. Ads are also huge data-wasters and privacy-invaders. Sunno doesn't have ads and doesn't use third-party servers. Here's what actually happens when you check the weather:

1 Your location is rounded

Before your coordinates leave the device, they are rounded to a grid. The provider sees a neighborhood, not your house. This happens server-side too, so it does not depend on the client behaving.

2 The map never calls home

The radar tiles are proxied through our backend. The basemap is bundled in the app. Panning the map tells nobody where you are, because nobody is asked.

3 We hold no device record

No account, no device ID, no tracking. Push alerts publish to topics your device subscribes to itself. We never know who you are, where you are, or how often you check.

No ads. No tracking. No selling data. Ever.

We make $12 a year from you. That's the whole business model.
